
Taiko Classes
Walakado coordinates regular practice sessions of traditional Japanese drumming styles including
Miyake Taiko, Hachijo Taiko and Wachi Taiko and unsemble styles.
We regularly invite instructors to visit Australia in order to drill deeper into taiko technique.
Instructors will also pass on the traditional origins of their taiko style. We often visit Japan to learn these Taiko style as well.

Taiko Class for all 18:30-19:30 / Fridays
Step into the groove and discover the basics of taiko drumming in our beginner class. This is the perfect starting point for those new to taiko or musical activities. You'll learn foundational rhythms, techniques, and group coordination in a supportive and welcoming atmosphere. Taiko is not only an engaging cultural experience but also a fantastic way to stay active, reduce stress, and build confidence through music and movement. You’ll also gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of Japanese culture through the art of taiko.

For those ready to take their taiko journey further, our performer class invites you to fully immerse yourself in the rhythm and groove of taiko. This program is tailored for dedicated students who wish to deepen their understanding of taiko, refine their technical abilities, and experience the thrill of performing. Students will have opportunities to showcase their talents at local events and festivals. Performing with WALAKADO builds confidence, teamwork, and a strong connection to the spirit of taiko, while celebrating the rich cultural heritage of Japan.
